LinkedIn Profile Tips for Building Your Personal Brand

Personal branding is establishing and promoting what you stand for. So, your personal brand is the unique combination of skills and experiences that make you, you. Communicating this effectively will differentiate you from other professionals in your field and on a platform like LinkedIn, could be a great opportunity to tell your career story in an interesting way.

We have outlined some top tips on how to build a great LinkedIn profile and make sure you are getting noticed!

———-

1. ADD A PHOTO

Profiles with photos generate more engagement and will get you noticed. LinkedIn research shows that just having a picture makes your profile 14 times more likely to be viewed by others. Here are some additional tips by LinkedIn on perfecting your profile image.

2. DRAFT A COMPELLING SUMMARY

Drafting a compelling summary is important. It is one of the first things visitors will read after all. Focus on accomplishments and aspirations! Make this space keyword rich so you will be found in searches. Also, if you include your contact details here, people out of your network can contact you.

3. DETAIL YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE

A LinkedIn profile is different from your CV, generally, a hirer will see your LinkedIn and then your CV. So, it doesn’t need to be as detailed as your resume. It should instead be a summary that highlights your main achievements. Members with up to date positions receive up to: –

  • 5 x more connection requests
  • 8 x more Profile views
  • 10 x more InMail messages

4. ADD EXAMPLES OF YOUR WORK

This is a great opportunity to give a dynamic, visually appealing representation of your professional story. Part of a successful property development? Add the press release, blog post, or ad announcing the project completion to your profile. Have you ever given a speech or talk? Use the event video. Written a company blog post? Share the link!

5. THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING

Adding skills and getting endorsed is a way of showing visitors to your profile that you are proficient at your work, which will make you more attractive to potential employers. LinkedIn statistics show that members with 5 or more skills are found up to 27x more by recruiters via search. So, reach out to your previous managers and ask them for that recommendation. It just might contribute to landing you your next role!
