A hybrid working arrangement available, offering 2 days working from home each week, the other 3 days would be a combination of office based work and conducting site inspections. There is a permanent vacancy in this team, so this position may go temp-to-perm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that the building and development standards of the Council area are maintained by ensuring that all relevant statutory requirements are complied with.
- Undertake all compliance and regulatory functions in accordance with specified delegations. Enforce the “Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979”, “Swimming Pools Act 1992” and “Local Government Act 1993”.
- Initiate compliance action in accordance with the “Enforcement Policy” including the following: Issuing of Notices, Orders and Directions; Issuing of Penalty Infringement Notices; and Preparing statements in relation to matters that are going to Court.
- Provide evidence and act as an expert witness in the Local and/or Land & Environment Court. Attend meetings and negotiations involving court matters. Provide professional and courteous advice and information to customers on these matters.
- Prepare high quality reports on building/development compliance and certification issues that consider all relevant issues, policies and legislation with clear conclusions and recommendations.
- Undertake dispute resolution on building and development compliance matters - w here possible, satisfactory outcomes are achieved through negotiation and mediation for all parties without resourcing to legal.
- Ensure that certificate applications are processed and determined in accordance with statutory requirements - Assess and certify applications made under Part 4 & 6 of the “Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979”, including applications for: Complying Development Certificates, Construction Certificates, Compliance Certificates, Building Information Certificates & Subdivision Certificates.
- Ensure public and Councillor enquiries and correspondence is responded to in a timely and polite manner.
ABOUT YOU:(Criteria)
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or a recognised qualification for a Building Surveyor by Fair Trading NSW (or near completion).
- Understanding of relevant building and planning legislation.
- Experience in the management of investigations and enforcement action.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively as part of a team environment.
- Computer literacy.
- Current Class C drivers licence.
